The transportation of precast concrete girders manufactured for the Intermediate Storage of Spent Nuclear Fuel in Nuclear Power Plant in Temelin was a difficult logistic task even for an experienced transportation specialist CD Cargo. It was necessary to select the right type of train and prepare the specific transportation procedures for this project. Each beam (length 22 meters, height 4 meters and weight 100 metric tones) was supported by two carriages in order to withstand the total load and guarantee the transportation safety. Each of the trains carried 6 girders and the total length of the train reached 450 meters. It took the train over 50 hours to cover the distance between PSG manufacturing facility in Otrokovice and the project site in Temelin. The whole logistic exercise was very successful. The girders were erected into its final position in accordance with the erection time schedule, and the construction of Intermediate Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel in Temelin continues as planned.
